[loner] Euchre on the PC

On this page exists an excellent euchre program for the PC.
Euchre Version 3.2.1 is the latest Windows version of my DOS card game that I originally released in 1996. The look and feel of the old game is there, but in a Windows version with many new features! Download Now

Euchre is a card game that pits you and a computer partner against two computer partners. The program features great graphics, customizable Sound Blaster compatible sounds using wav files (you can use your own too), background music, large text font, help and suggestions, and a learn-as-you-play mode available for trump calling and card playing. Computer players are worthy opponents, but don't cheat. Card playing logic is based on many wasted hours playing at college and many more hours developing the program. Many have said this program is better than the Hoyle or Bicycle versions.

Many options are available by menus and a new Options screen including many regionalized rule variations. Game statistics are kept for up to twenty different players. Will run in Windows 951, 98, Me, NT, 2000, XP, & Vista (Sorry WinCE, Palm, Linux, and Mac users). I have recieved word that it will run in Linux using Wine, but can't verify at this time. Online rules of euchre are included as well as detailed explanations of all menu options in a help file.

This program is being released as Shareware. You can try it for free and if you like it and continue to play it, you are encouraged to register. If you don't care for it, than you owe nothing. Even if you don't care for it, please pass this shareware version along to others who might enjoy it. If you do decide to register, the asking price varies from $8.50 to $15 U.S. dollars. Registration information is included in the program itself and on my Registration Page.

The Registered version includes the ability to save ALL of your favorite settings and includes free support by mailing to [support at euchreusa dot com] as well as snail mail.
There is also No 'countdown' timer on the closing screen in the registered version.

For some screen shots of the game in action, check out the Action Page.

Earth Shattering News! 01.12.2008 Back on for Vista!
I figured out the permissions for Vista and have finished the new help. I also changed the programming code so that the dreaded '429' error will NOT occur. The downside is the help won't work with Windows 95 anymore (without a separate download), but as more and more are getting Vista and '95 is obsolete the choice was a no-brainer.

Breaking News! 01.06.2008 Windows Vista SUCKS!
OK, for many this is not breaking news, but the actual news is my Euchre Program will still NOT run in Vista unless you install it and run it as an Administrator. I thought I was following the guidelines, but apparently not. I'm testing and will come up with a solution soon. Oh, and there is no help file available with Vista. The Microsoft wizards have decided to drop .hlp file support in Vista. The 16-bit version is still there, but not the 32-bit. How stupid!

Old News: As of 2008, the program and install routine have been updated for Windows XP and Windows Vista. As security becomes more of an issue each day, Windows is by default becoming more restrictive on user rights and what a standard user can access. The latest version follows guidelines on where to install program files and data files.

Current News: I've been working for some time on a new version that includes new graphics (see preview here) and including new options or fixing problems sent in by users or mentioned at other places and and have made good progress. I was planning on including internet and network play, but the details have been bogging me down. I will put an emphasis on releasing a new version with the new graphics and options, but won't include network/internet play until a later time.

When you click on the links below to download any of the files, your web browser should say something about not supporting the zip file type. You should select save to disk and note where your browser is putting the file or change the location of the zip file. You may also right click on the links below and choose 'Save Target As' and browse to the desired download location.
Once the file is downloaded, unzip it and run the setup.exe to install Euchre. You can read the readme.txt for some general info.

The files are zipped to decrease download time. You will need pkunzip or the pkzip reader to unzip these files.

Download the latest complete shareware version. (Me, 2000, XP, Vista)
[FullPackage] Full Windows Shareware Version Euchre32.zip (2.0 MB)
Please note that the visual basic runtime files are required on your system with this install. Most systems have these files already installed and should only be needed for Windows 95, 98, and NT. If you're not sure, use the download below.
Make sure you Extract all the files from the zip file before running the setup.exe!
Note: if you are having problems downloading the full shareware version, try here.

Download the shareware version that includes the vb runtime files.
[FullPackage] Shareware Version w/VB Runtime Files Euchre32z.zip (3.7 MB)
Use this version if you're not sure if you have the vb runtime files installed. 2000, XP & Vista should already have them.

If you would like a DOS version, you can get the last DOS version I wrote here. It is most excellent and I would have liked to do one more version before moving to Windows but never made the time. Many features in the Windows version are NOT in the DOS version.
